BRUCEDALE - A proposal for a three-storey, 24-unit apartment complex in downtown Rockwood is moving forward.

The site is anticipated to have 67 parking stalls.

The item came up as part of the Feb. 24 council session as planner Meagan Ferris presented her report on the project.

The proposed development is within an irregular parcel designated as 197 Main Street South in Rockwood.

The property is a consolidated piece of land comprised of 193, 197 and 209 Main Street South.

The overall site is  approximately 1.02 hectares (2.52 acres) in size, with access to Main Street.

Surrounding land is primarily residential and commercial use.

Ferris said this application was deemed complete in July 2019 - providing a number of issues were addressed.

She said the request is seeking council’s support to move forward with a public meeting.

Ferris noted the proposal has not changed significantly since last year.

She understood the number of units had dropped to 24 - from the original 26 units.

“You’ve already gone thorough two reviews of the site plan, looking at the technical side of the proposal.

“Our hope is to have some of the outstanding issues resolved, then move forward with a public meeting.”

An information report would be drafted ahead of the public meeting, and Ferris noted council was not expected to make a decision at that point.

Mayor Chris White asked if there was a rush on the project.

Ferris indicated she did not believe the issues are extremely challenging to address.

She explained she had simply left off a specific date on a public meeting “to see how things unfold.”

Council authorized scheduling a public meeting.
