WELLINGTON COUNTY – There are 427 confirmed active cases of COVID-19 throughout the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) region as of May 3, a 29 per cent decrease from 604 cases reported on April 27.

As of Tuesday, there are 87 known active cases in Wellington County, 90 in Dufferin County, and 224 in Guelph.

Provincial health officials admit limited access to COVID testing has resulted in an under-representation of how many active cases there truly are in the province.

Hospitalizations

As of April 28, there were 19 people testing positive for the virus who were admitted to WDGPH region hospitals, of which two were in an ICU.

Hospitalizations in the region have remained steady in recent weeks, fluctuating between 12 and 20.

Vaccinations

Across the WDGPH region, as of May 3, there are 156,416 people (58% of those 12 and older) who have received three vaccine doses, 258,888 people (87.8% of those five and older) who have received two doses and 7,866 have received a single dose.

At the county level, as of May 3, there are 49,651 people in Wellington (58.5% of those 12 and older) who have received three vaccine doses, 80,121 people (86% of those five and older) who have received two doses, and 2,340 have received a single dose.

Deaths

Across the health region, there have been 160 COVID-related deaths reported as of April 27 – unchanged in the past two weeks.

Outbreaks

There are currently COVID outbreaks declared at the Eden House long-term care facility in Guelph/Eramosa, Heritage River retirement home in Elora, and at Morriston Park long-term care home in Puslinch.
