Alma photographer recognized by Canadian Farm Writers Federation
ALMA – A local photographer, whose photos capture moments in farm life in rural Ontario, earned two silver awards in the news photography category at the Canadian Farm Writers Conference.
Sharon Grose of Alma earned the accolades for her photos entitled “Working Into the Night Harvest Crew” and “Holland Marsh - Rich Black Soil - Ontario’s Vegetable Patch.”
Canada’s top agricultural photographers, journalists and communicators were honoured at the Canadian Farm Writers’ Federation (CFWF) AGM. Gold, silver and bronze awards were presented in 14 categories, with a total of 44 awards given out.
Awards included cheques for $300 (gold), $200 (silver) and $100 bronze. The 16 judges included journalists, photographers, professors, farmers and communicators from a broad mix of communications vehicles around the world.
Grose says capturing moments in time is her way of telling stories about people and events in Rural Ontario.
“I would rather take a picture to say something than type 1,000 words. They always say a picture is worth 1,000 words, and for me, it is,” she said.
“If I can take a picture and accomplish what needs to be said, I will do just that. ”
Grose’s previous awards include the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists DeLaval Star Prize Photography Award, gold (2016) for her feature photos Girls at Miller’s Dairy, silver (2013) for her feature photo Raise it Up (barn raising), bronze (2013) for her news photo Tractor Heading Home, and a bronze (2012) for news photo Ontario Strawberries.
