CENTRE WELLINGTON – Anand Kaur, a Grade 1 student at Victoria Cross Public School in Mount Forest, attended the Fergus fire station on April 10 to claim her prize as "Fire Chief for a Day."

The contest, sponsored by Guelph Wellington Crime Stoppers and Centre Wellington Fire Rescue, aimed to promote community awareness as well as raise funds for Crime Stoppers.

Kaur and her father, Parminder Singh, were welcomed by Fire Chief Tom Mulvey, who presented Kaur with a certificate before deputy chief Jason Benn led a tour of the fire station.

Highlights included riding on a fire truck, target practice with a fire hose and dousing actual flames with a fire extinguisher.

After lunch at a restaurant of her choice, Kaur headed off to tour the Elora fire station and to meet with officials at the township office.

Anand returned to Mount Forest with many memories after a day she will likely never forget.
