WELLINGTON COUNTY – Qualifying residents in various areas of Wellington County can now receive the COVID-19 vaccine at their doctor's office.

On March 16, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) officials announced the health unit has been chosen to participate in the province’s AstraZeneca Primary Care Pilot project.

The pilot will see local physicians vaccinate healthy individuals aged 60 to 64 with the AstraZeneca vaccine at the following family health teams:

  • Dufferin Area Family Health Team;
  • East Wellington Family Health Team;
  • Guelph Family Health Team;
  • Minto Mapleton Family Health Team;
  • Mount Forest Family Health Team; and
  • Upper Grand Family Health Team.

“This is another key tool in our fight against COVID-19,” stated WDGPH Medical Officer of Health Dr. Nicola Mercer.

“I thank each family health team and each physician for their commitment to helping end the pandemic in our region.”

Public health officials stress members of the public should not contact their primary care provider, as participating physicians will contact eligible patients to book a vaccination.

"This pilot is already underway in our region and, as more vaccine becomes available, it can be rolled out to additional primary care offices," states the WDGPH press release.
