Breaking ground for Drayton Wastewater Treatment Plant lagoons
MAPLETON – Mapleton council and staff joined representatives from Graham Capital, Cima and the Ontario Clean Water Agency on June 11 at the Drayton Wastewater Treatment Plant lagoons for a ceremonial groundbreaking.
Work is set to begin by the end of June on the $41-million series of water and wastewater upgrades.
The work will increase the plant’s capacity from 900 to 1,300 cubic metres per day, allowing for township’s population to grow.
“Increasing the capacity of the wastewater treatment plant [will] allow us to have more homes and industry built in our township,” Mayor Gregg Davidson told the Advertiser.
The work will be completed through a municipal service corporation created for the project – Northern Maple Utilities Inc – so that debt financing for the project does not limit the township’s borrowing capacity for other projects such as roads, Davidson said.
