Cannabis stores up for discussion in Puslinch Township; decision expected Jan. 9
ABERFOYLE - During the Dec. 19 council session, Mayor James Seeley noted that on Dec. 17 a public meeting was held regarding cannabis and the potential of cannabis retail stores within the township.
Seeley estimated the meeting, attended by 30 people, “went very well.”
The mayor noted an impromptu survey was taken at the end of the meeting, and those results will be included in a Jan. 9 report to council.
“I believe council is looking forward to seeing those results,” said Seeley.
Councillor Matthew Bulmer complimented CAO Karen Landry for the quality of presentation made during the Dec. 17 meeting.
Noting there was a lack of information on the subject in some municipalities, Bulmer pointed out he received information at the Puslinch meeting that was issued that same morning.
“It was great; our CAO did a little extra digging,” said Bulmer.
“I thought our residents we well informed by our CAO’s presentation.”
Later in the meeting, council looked at a technical briefing entitled “Moving forward with Cannabis Retailing,” a 10-page report produced by the province.
The report notes that regulations would be developed to enable the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to accept applications for cannabis stores in December.
Municipalities have the opportunity to opt out of retail stores by Jan. 22, with stores opening on or after April 1.
