FERGUS - The third round of Catch the Ace draws has started under licence to the Rotary Club of Fergus-Elora, after the round two jackpot was won on Sept. 15 by Norman Voisin of Alma.

The first of up to 52 weekly draws in the new round of the progressive lottery was held Sept. 22.

All net proceeds (after expenses and prizes) will go to Groves Hospital Foundation, to support the new facility now under construction in Aboyne.

Catch the Ace was introduced last year as a joint project of the Rotary Club of Fergus-Elora and the Fergus Legion.

Anyone over 18 in Ontario can buy a $5 ticket (cash only), but tickets are only sold in person at the Legion branch, 500 Blair Street, and at other outlets in Wellington County.

Weekly prizes each Sunday are in relation to the income from same-week ticket sales, with 20% awarded to the winning ticket holder, 30% added to a rising progressive jackpot and 50% of the net proceeds to the foundation.

The jackpot is won through a series of 52 numbered envelopes containing a deck of playing cards.

Those who purchase tickets indicate which envelope is to be opened if they win the weekly draw. If it is the ace of spades, the ticket holder also wins the accumulated jackpot and that series of draws is complete.
