GUELPH – Sylvia Kablutsiak is joining the Wellington Catholic District School Board as an Indigenous student support worker.

The new role involves developing relationships with First Nations, Métis and Inuit students and their families, connecting students with resources and integrating Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, identity and traditions into school experiences.

Director of education Mike Glazier said Kablutkiak is just getting familiar with her role, as she began with the board during the first week of September.

Executive superintendent Brian Capovilla said the board was looking to fill the role “for a while,” and modified the details of the position during this search.

He said Kablutkiak is a recent graduate from the University of Laurier’s masters of social work program, and that board officials are working alongside her to create a plan for how she can best support students.
