‘City of Fergus’ sign a mistake: township

FERGUS – For a hot second, the town of Fergus was elevated to city status.

Eagle-eyed readers told the Advertiser a “City of Fergus” welcome sign was recently erected on Highway 6 at the south entrance to town.

But Fergus is still a town, said Centre Wellington Township spokesperson Kendra Martin.

“This sign was placed in error by MTO,” she stated in an email. “They have been made aware and will be replacing the sign.”

Tanya Blazina, spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation, said, “We are in the process of ordering new signs, which will be installed as soon as possible.”
