Contractor repaints Elora water tower after lettering snafu
ELORA – It took a few attempts to get a paint job on the Elora water tower correct.
In June, Centre Wellington approved a tender to re-paint the water tower on Bridge Street and redo the township logo and the words “Elora” and “Centre Wellington.”
C3 Industrial was awarded the $345,475 job (pre-tax), and began it earlier this month.
The project includes repairs on the interior of the elevated tank as well as overcoating on the exterior.
“The first stencil used included the letters ‘ELO’, which were painted on both the north and south faces of the water tower,” township spokesperson Kendra Martin told the Advertiser on Aug. 11.
“When the contractor placed the second stencil with letters ‘RA’ on the north face of the tower, it was placed approximately eight inches too high.”
Elora residents quickly noticed the discrepancy and took to social media to voice their opinions.
Some users downplayed the error while others said it was their “tax dollars hard at work.”
“This mistake was realized and has since been corrected by the contractor, and the new logos and lettering now appear as designed,” Martin said.
Another difference in the lettering – elongated vertical sections of the letters “E” and “L” – was also noted on social media.
“This is just getting painful,” stated one Facebook user.
The township said corrections were made at no additional cost to taxpayers.
A C3 Industrial representative declined to comment when reached by phone.
