Council awards $156,000 tender for drain works

MINTO – Council here approved a bid of $156,000 for the construction of municipal drain 120.

The town received seven bids for the project, with prices ranging from $156,000 to  $199,000. The highest bid was from Van Bree Infrastructure.

The three lowest bids were reviewed for mathematical errors or omissions and no errors were found.

Staff recommended council to award the contract to Ethel-based company TAS Excavating and Rentals Limited.

At an Oct. 1 meeting, council was presented with the engineer’s report from Headway Engineering.

The report outlined the creation of a new drain to provide a legal outlet for parts of Lots 19 to 21, Concession 3 and part of Lot 21, Concession 4 in Minto.

Headway engineers recommended a new tile drain  be installed, along with specific measurements of concrete field tile and wall steel casings.

The total estimated cost for the project was almost $316,000, which included construction, surveys, designs, consultations and more.

The assessment of costs was listed in the October report as:

  • municipal lands, $106,410;
  • private non-agricultural lands, $12,428;
  • private agricultural lands, $189,762; and
  • public utilities, $7,300.

The construction start date is set for Jan. 10.

Council voted unanimously to award the construction contract to TAS for $156,000.
