MAPLETON – Township council has settled on a revised design for the new water tower currently under construction in Drayton.

In April of 2021, council directed the tower be painted following the colour scheme of the township’s logo.

A survey of local residents indicated the most favoured proposed design used the red/orange colour from the Mapleton logo on the underside of the top of the tower.

However, during a council update on construction progress on Jan. 11, public works director Sam Mattina noted the project consultant has advised the selected colours “are not the best colours to consider because historically those colours, after time, give the inference of a rust formation.”

At the March 22 meeting, several options for a revised design were presented in a staff report.

Council selected a design that included a green tower base, rather than the orange colour used in the previous design.

Incorporating the new design will cost an additional $9,555 on top of the $40,000 cost included for painting the tower.

The cost of other options presented ranged from around $43,000 to just over $73,000.
