ELORA – Centre Wellington council gave the green light to Bell Mobility to install a cell tower at 810 St. David St. N. in  Fergus, which is the site of the  Esso Gas Bar.

The tower will be short - a 22 metre shrouded mono pole - explained Sean Galbraith, municipal affairs manager for Bell, at the Feb. 13 committee of the whole meeting.

“This will help our service users,” he said.

“We have too many users and too little bandwidth.”

Bell currently has a pole on Athol Street that provides primary service to Fergus customers, “but the number and density of users in Fergus exceeds what can be accommodated on this site and as such, a new secondary site is required to spread out the network load,” Galbraith wrote in his report.

Council agreed to the tower and to have managing director of planning and development Brett Salmon prepare the necessary documents.
