County approves $15 million in tenders for three major road, bridge projects

GUELPH – Wellington County council approved tenders worth more than $15 million combined for three major road and bridge projects on April 25.

A tender for the reconstruction of Wellington Road 46 in Aberfoyle, was awarded to E. & E. Seegmiller Limited, of Kitchener, at the tendered amount of $6,424,527.

The company submitted the lowest of four tenders for the project, with the highest coming in around $6.7 million.

The project will be completed in two parts.

Part A, scheduled for completion in 2019, includes work north of McLean Road to north of Cockburn Street, including a roundabout at Gilmour Road/Nestle Entrance.

Part B, slated for completion in 2020, runs from north of Cockburn Street to Wellington Road 34, including a roundabout at Wellington Road 34.

Council also passed a bylaw authorizing an application for expropriation of a section of land along Concession 7 and 8 from the Township of Puslinch to facilitate the road reconstruction and installation of the roundabout at Gilmour Road and Wellington Road 46.

Salem bridge

Council awarded a tender for the reconstruction, including a bridge structure, of Wellington Road 18 in Salem to McLean Taylor Construction Limited, of St. Marys, for $6,288,299.

The work, a joint project with Centre Wellington, comprises replacement of a bridge structure over Irvine Creek and the reconstruction of Wellington Road 18 from Avruskin Street to Wellington Road 7 in Salem.

The company’s tender was the lowest of three submitted, with the highest tender coming in at just over $7.2 million.

Eramosa Bridge

A tender for the replacement of the Eramosa Bridge and a passing lane extension on Wellington Road 124 was awarded to Esposito Bros Construction Ltd., of Bolton, at the tendered amount of $2,614,577.

The company, a pre-qualified contractor, was the only bidder for the project.
