COVID-19 outbreak declared at Caressant Care in Harriston
CARESSANT CARE, HARRISTON

HARRISTON – Public health officials have declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Caressant Care Long-Term Care facility in Harriston.

A Dec. 4 update on the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) website states there is one staff case at the home.

The Caressant Care outbreak is one of three current outbreaks at facilities in the WDGPH region. The others are:

  • Headwaters Health Care Centre ('F' Wing) in Orangeville, one patient case and three staff cases, declared on Dec. 4; and
  • Wellington Terrace Long-Term Care facility in Aboyne, one staff case, declared on Nov. 28.

WDGPH recently declared the following outbreaks over:

  • on Dec. 3: Stone Lodge Retirement Residence in Guelph, one resident case and two staff cases, declared on Nov. 18;
  • on Dec. 2: Caressant Care in Arthur, one staff case, declared on Nov. 12; and
  • on Dec. 1: Village of Riverside Glen (Eramosa wing) in Guelph, one resident case, declared on Nov. 19

An outbreak is defined by public health officials as one or more confirmed cases of COVID-19.

An outbreak is declared over 14 days after symptoms began in the most recent case and when no other cases are suspect.
