COVID-19 outbreak declared at Royal Terrace in Palmerston

GUELPH – Public health officials have declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Royal Terrace Long-Term and Residential Care facility in Palmerston.

A Nov. 22 update on the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) website states there is one staff case at the home.

The outbreak at the Royal Terrace is one of five current outbreaks at facilities in the WDGPH region. The others are:

• Birmingham Retirement Community in Mount Forest, one staff case, declared on Nov. 19;
• Caressant Care in Arthur, one staff case, declared on Nov. 12;
• Stone Lodge Retirement Residence in Guelph, one resident case and two staff cases, declared on Nov. 18; and
• Village of Riverside Glen (Eramosa wing) in Guelph, one resident case, declared on Nov. 19.

An outbreak at Caressant Care in Fergus was declared over on Nov. 23 and two others at Village of Riverside Glen were declared over on Nov. 10 and 21.

An outbreak is defined by public health officials as one or more confirmed cases of COVID-19.

An outbreak is declared over 14 days after symptoms began in the most recent case and when no other cases are suspect.
