ELORA – There will be improvements to four intersections in Centre Wellington, including hiring crossing guards.

Council approved the changes at its July 14 meeting.

Manager of engineering Adam Gilmore explained these intersections are high priority because they are along school routes, but there will be more changes to come, pending budget approval.

Beatty Line, Sideroad 18, Farley Road in Fergus

This intersection is a two-way stop and it will be converted to an all-way stop in 2026 along with a crossing guard when school resumes in September.

Beatty Line, Millage Lane, Elliot Avenue East in Fergus

This intersection is a two-way stop, with a pedestrian signal on the south side of the intersection. It will see a new crossing guard in September.

“In anticipation of future increases in traffic caused by development, this intersection is also recommended to be converted to full traffic signals in 2026,” reads Gilmore’s report.

Gartshore Street, Middleton Avenue, Forfar Street East in Fergus

This intersection is a two-way stop, with pedestrian crossing signals north of the intersection at the Elora-Cataract Trail crossing.

Due to concerns raised by residents, a crossing guard will be posted at this location in September.

David Street and Irvine Street in Elora

This intersection is a three-legged one-way stop, with eastbound traffic on David Street stopping at Irvine Street.

Staff recommend a pedestrian crossing signal on the south side of the intersection, but that can’t happen until 2026. So a crossing guard will be posted at this intersection in September.
