ABOYNE – The Centre Wellington Community Foundation (CWCF) held an update and project grants event at the Aboyne Hall in the Wellington County Museum and Archives on June 20, announcing the foundation’s grant recipients.

During the pandemic, CWCF started a grassroots fund called the COVID-19 Community Response Fund and participated in the federal Emergency Community Support Fund.

Support grants, totalling $250,000, were awarded to 52 recipients throughout the pandemic, helping address the effects of COVID-19 on the community.

The CWCF also announced $15,725 in project grants awarded to 11 recipients.

One regular grant of $1,500 was provided to the Community Resource Centre of Centre and North Wellington’s Kids Can Play program.

Other grant recipients included:

- Elora House;

- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Centre Wellington;

- New Growth Family Centre Inc;

- The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington;

- Elora Festival-Elora Singers;

- Scientists in School;

- Community Resource Centre of Centre and North Wellington, which was the recipient of grants for three separate projects.

Vital conversation

The community update and project grant release isn’t the only event back in person for CWCF.

On June 21, the CWCF met for a Vital Conversation meeting to discuss food scarcity, said director Raymond Soucy.
