DRAYTON – With live music, a bouncy castle, food trucks, face painting and fire trucks, Mapleton’s Canada Day celebration is set to have something for the whole family.

The annual event takes place at the Drayton fairgrounds (49 Elm Street) from 4pm until after dusk, when the celebrations will conclude with a 15-minute firework display.

Mapleton community services manager Amy Grose said people always enjoy the fireworks show, and appreciate having “somewhere local to spend a great day with family and friends.”

The event has taken place for many years, she said, and keeps growing in size.

Grose is most excited about new partnerships between the township and community groups this year, including the Rotary Club of Drayton, the Mapleton Farmers’ Market, and the Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society.

The Rotary Club will be hosting its monthly car show during the event, alongside Mapleton Farmers’ Market vendors, and the agricultural society will bring arts and crafts activities for children.

Mapleton Fire Rescue and the Municipality of Mapleton will bring trucks and equipment to the event for a “Touch a Truck” activity.

The township will also hand out free swag bags with cups, sunglasses, bags and frisbees.

There will be a live performance from the MooreBand starting at 7pm. The local family band will perform a setlist of all Canadian songs.

Fireworks will follow the MooreBand’s concert.

There are bleachers and picnic tables at the fairgrounds, but attendees are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs and picnic blankets.
