DRAYTON  – Tucked at the end of a dead-end street just past the Drayton fairgrounds lies Farmoire, a new home decor store.

Owned by Nikki and Dylan Knetsch, the store officially opened on Oct. 2 after nearly five months of hard work.

“It was a labour of love,” said Dylan. “There were lots of 18-hour days.”

The Knetsch family moved to the Drayton property five years ago and Nikki’s love for interior design led her to host pop-up shops in her home for many years.

These pop-up shops featured locally made products and allowed locals and members of other communities to cash in on Nikki’s eye for design.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to use my gift of decorating in a broader manner,” said Nikki. “So not just in my house, but being able to sort of bring it out to the community.”

Nikki told the Community News she had always considered the barn as an option to launch a business.

“The idea of this barn was always in the back of my mind as an option to convert to a store,” she said.

The barn’s previous tenants, a few ducks, have been relocated to a more size-appropriate dwelling on the property.

The store offers a plethora of holiday-themed decor from retailers across Canada.

“A lot of it comes from out west and some from out east,” said Nikki.

“They have a lot of wholesale shows in Toronto and Mississauga with hundreds of vendors ... so we can just go through and kind of shop and pick what we like.”

The store, located at 75 John St., is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 8pm and Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.
