WELLINGTON COUNTY - Local food banks and community groups have received a share of nearly 11,000 eggs donated though egg farmers in Wellington, Grey, Bruce and Dufferin Counties.

Listowel-based Gray Ridge Egg Farms donated over 10,000 dozen eggs to communities across the province, with Elora-based Stickney Poultry Farm responsible for distributing 900 dozen in Egg Farmers of Ontario’s District 7.

Farm fresh eggs were distributed to food banks in Centre Wellington, Arthur, Drayton and Guelph, as well as Chalmers Community Group, West Willow Village, Hope House and Royal City Mission.

On top of Gray Ridge’s donation, Zone 7 egg farmers are also donating to food banks in Palmerston, Walkerton, Teeswater, Orangeville, Grand Valley, Shelburne, Hanover, Paisley and Kincardine, as well as the Student Nutrition Program of Food and Friends Guelph and Wellington.

“With COVID-19 graders have an abundance of eggs that would normally go to the restaurant market and we know the majority of these are closed, giving us the opportunity to donate them to places in need,” said Anneke Stickney, of Stickney Poultry Farm.

“On top of eggs, the dairy producers, pork and chicken producers have all made large donations to food banks.

"We are honoured and ‘egg-cited’ we could provide our local food banks with a donation in these hard times.”
