PUSLINCH – The volunteers and trustees have again opened Ellis Chapel for weddings, two services and a concert this summer.

The first service is on July 20 at 2:30pm, with the Reverend David Reitzel of St. Mary of the Visitation, Cambridge.

The second service is on Aug. 17 at 2:30pm with the Reverend Lisa Dolson, Duff’s Church, Puslinch.

The concert takes place on Sept. 14 at 2:30pm, and back by popular demand will be Two of a Kind, playing new country and music of the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Ellis Chapel is nondenominational.

Services reflect its Methodist roots and old hymns, officials say.

“You’ll find the chapel on the same one-acre parcel of their farm given in 1859 by Edward and Mary Ellis. It is a cherished example of pioneer faith, courage and community,” officials say.

Much of the church is original, including two-foot fieldstone walls, two-inch thick pine plank floors, pine wainscotting, plaster walls and six Gothic windows made by Edward Ellis.

There is no admission charge for either of the events but a collection plate will be circulated at the services, and the “hat” at the concert.

All money raised goes to maintaining the historic building and grounds for the benefit of future generations, officials say.
