Elora Rocks lawn bowling receives funding

ELORA  – In October volunteers at the Elora Rocks Lawn Bowling Club completed the replacement of backboards in the ditches of two lawn bowling greens.

These greens safety upgrades were possible thanks to a $13,000 funding the club received from the federal government’s Canada New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).

“We want to express our appreciation to the government ... Lawn bowling is a great summer social activity which people of all ages can enjoy,” club offciails stated.

“We are grateful for the NHSP support.  “

The project, completed in October by volunteers who are seniors, included the removal of mulch, old landscape fabric, stone base and old and deteriorating back boards.

Then volunteers installed new backboards, replaced the stone base, added new landscape fabric and replaced the mulch.

The Elora Rocks Lawn Bowling Club moved to its present location, at 74 David Street East, in 1936 and was once the largest lawn bowling club in Canada.

Members can play in leagues, casual matches or participate in inter-club tournaments.
