Erin council paid $120,000 in 2017

The town’s mayor and four councillors received just over $120,000 in 2017, including salary, benefits and expenses.

Council total 2017 remuneration was down by about $7,000 from 2016.

Mayor Allan Alls received $27,000 in salary (up $500 from 2016), $1,174 for expenses, including conferences, and $352 in CPP, EHT.

He received a total of $28,527. Alls does not receive any health or life insurance benefits.

Councillors received an increase of $300 to their base salary.

Payments for the councillors were:

- John Brennan: base pay of $16,200, $2,707 for expenses, $326 for CPP and $922 in benefits, for a total of $20,155;

- Jeff Duncan: base pay of $16,200, $1,726 for expenses, $614 for CPP and $6,404 in benefits for a total of $24,944;

- Matt Sammut: base pay of $16,200, $6,404 in benefits, $614 in CPP and zero expenses for a total of $23,218; and

- Rob Smith: base pay of $16,200, $6,404 in benefits, $614 in CPP and zero expenses for a total of $23,218.

The town also paid out a total of $1,739 for livestock evaluators, fence viewers and members of the committee of adjustment.

“I sold some property of my own and I realized what the agent was going to make - that was about seven months of my salary here as a mayor,” said Alls.

“I don’t think I’m overpaid, or the council members, by any stretch of the matter.”

Council received the report for information. Brennan was absent.
