Erin launches feedback website, will host open house after logo backlash

ERIN – Residents here will be getting an opportunity to voice their opinions in person and online regarding Erin’s new logo.

The town is welcoming feedback at erinengaged.erin.ca and is hosting an open house on Oct. 1.

On Sept. 4 the municipality announced a “brand refresh” project through a press release.

An email was included for residents to provide ideas and feedback, but after just nine days Erin had already unveiled a new logo.

According to town spokesperson Chris Vernon, “there were no responses received during the public feedback window from residents.”

Within hours of the reveal, residents voiced several concerns about the new logo and a petition was created to have the “traditional” shamrock logo restored.

Town officials have released some answers on the rebranding through the Erin Engaged website, touching on eight frequently asked questions.

“Recently, we undertook a brand refresh to unify and modernize the way we present ourselves to the world,” stated officials.

“This process hasn’t been without challenges and many of you have expressed concerns about the lack of public engagement.”

The webpage notes “the urgency to place the branding on the new water tower led us to expedite certain timelines to avoid additional costs to taxpayers, but we now realize that this came at the expense of robust community engagement.”

As of Sept. 24, the petition to scrap the new logo had 854 signatures.

The town open house is scheduled for Oct. 1 from 4 to 8pm at Erin Town Hall on Trafalgar Road.

The date and location are subject to change.
