Erin's rebranding open house rescheduled

ERIN – Councillor John Brennan has called for the discontinuation of the new Town of Erin logo and the possible return to a variation of the previous shamrock logo.

On Sept. 4 the municipality announced a “brand refresh” project through a press release.

Nine days later the town unveiled a new logo, which was widely panned by residents.

The town's expedited rebranding process was meant to "save tax dollars," officials have stated, noting an "urgency to place the branding on the new water tower."

Due to Brennan's motion at the Sept. 26 meeting, the town will be rescheduling a public open house, originally schedule for Oct. 1, to discuss the recent changes to the logo.

Due to the "significantly negative" reaction from "concerned citizens" to the new logo, council and staff have decided to delay placing it on the new water tower in Hillsburgh, stated Brennan's motion.

He also suggested public consultation occur prior to the implementation of a final logo design.

"I'm suggesting that the meeting that's proposed for open public consultation on branding be postponed for a future date that makes sense in light of a potential change," CAO Rob Adams said during the meeting.

"I think it's important that there will be clear direction from council so that, that meeting is productive and useful to the public."

The town issued a press release on Sept. 27 announcing the open house rescheduling.

"Details regarding the timeline for a public consultation on a logo design will be published once council has voted on the motion at the Oct. 10 regular council meeting," stated the release.
