CENTRE WELLINGTON – On Nov. 30, the Fergus Curling Club hosted its annual Hugh Black Founders Bonspiel.

Hugh Black was the first president of the Fergus Curling Club in 1834, and this annual event pays homage to its founder.

Several of Black’s descendants attended, with Senator Rob Black giving opening remarks to start the event.

The Fergus Pipe Band, with two Black family members in the band, welcomed curlers onto the ice. Senator Black’s father Bert was also present.
