Former Erin mayors and reeves honoured

The Town of Erin is honouring former municipal mayors and reeves with a display in the council chamber.

Current Mayor Allan Alls, councillor Jeff Duncan and Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott unveiled the Wall of Recognition at a special ceremony before the June 6 council meeting.

Former Erin mayors and reeves, including Rod Finnie, Terry Mundell, Barb Tocher, Duncan Armstrong and Bert Wheeler, as well as mayors from other municipalities, were in attendance at the ceremony.

Over 90 entries for reeves of Erin Township and Erin Village as well as the Town of Erin as it is known today  are on the plaque, dating back to 1842.

Councillor Jeff Duncan, who headed the project, which has been in the works for years, said the names are divided by government formation - both as a township and a village.

“It shows our community goes on, it doesn’t matter what sort of government that’s in or how it’s split up,” he said.

He suggested mayors names will be added to the list when they take office.

“So that person can see that it’s not your office, it’s not your term, you’re just really a caretaker of a whole bunch of people that have gone before you,” Duncan said.

The frame housing the list was designed and manufactured by local artist Ofer Dagan with locally-sourced wood.
