Four county municipalities receive funds for water projects
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Four local municipalities are among 144 from across Ontario receiving federal and provincial funding for water infrastructure projects.
The federal government is contributing more than $190.2 million through the Green Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
The province is providing over $140.5 million, while local municipalities are contributing more than $108.5 million.
The funding will “improve water infrastructure and ensure Canadians have better access to reliable and clean drinking water,” states an April 14 press release from Infrastructure Canada.
Erin is receiving just under $2 million from the federal government and almost $1.7 million from the province for watermain replacement and water system upgrades across the municipality. A municipal contribution of about $1.33 million will be required.
The Erin project involves replacement of approximately 5,000 metres of watermains on 21 streets and is expected to increase access to potable water and improve the reliability and capacity of the transmission infrastructure. The work includes pre-laying sanitary sewer collection piping, hydrants and the reconstruction of affected roads.
Mapleton will receive $1,995,840 in federal dollars and $1,663,034 from the province to go with a municipal contribution of $1,330,726 toward renewal of the Moorefield water system.
Minto funding will be used for the replacement of a well in the Minto Pines rural subdivision. The federal government will contribute $80,500 to the project, while the province will add $67,077 and the municipality $53,673.
Wellington North will receive $451,000 from the feds and $375,796 from the province to assist with the cost of rehabilitation of the Mount Forest Standpipe. The township will contribute just over $300,000.
