PERTH WELLINGTON – Hospitals in Perth-Wellington are set to receive over $3.9 million in funding, Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece announced Sept. 29.

The funding is part of the province’s Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF), which is meant to assist in upgrading, repairing, and maintaining hospital projects.

North Wellington Healthcare Corporation, which operates hospitals in Palmerston and Mount Forest, will receive $1,037,815 from the funding pool.

“As we continue to fight COVID, funding healthcare remains an important priority,” said Pettapiece. “This funding will help our hospitals and healthcare teams obtain and maintain the resources needed to provide high quality services.”

Additional HIRF funding will go to Guelph General Hospital in the amount of $533,250 and St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Guelph will receive $289,704, Pettapiece announced.

Guelph Community Health Centre and the Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo-Wellington Branch will receive $15,601 and $88,773, respectively, through the Community Infrastructure Renewal Fund (CIRF). CIRF funding provides grants to eligible community-based Health Service Providers (HSPs) to support minor infrastructure renewal projects.

“These important investments will help build our healthcare capacity for years to come,” added Pettapiece.

“It will also allow us to address the immediate issue of COVID-19,” he added.
