‘Giving Tuesday’ returns to Hospice Wellington

GUELPH – National Giving Tuesday is making a return this year on Nov. 28.

Hospice Wellington will be celebrating its third Giving Tuesday by “shining a light” on the kitchen and food prepared there.

“It’s the emotional support that the kitchen supplies for people in the residence and the feeling of home and comfort that people get from the kitchen. That’s the thing that we like to emphasize,” said Tracey Schlosser, marketing and fund development lead at Hospice Wellington.

“Even the smell of food can lighten someone’s mood,” she added.

This year, to honour the 13 years since donating the kitchen at the hospice, Barzotti Woodworking will be matching the first $13,000 raised.

“It all kind of goes hand in hand. They built the kitchen and now they’re helping supply the kitchen through their matching,” said Schlosser.

Hospice Wellington has volunteers who bring their cooking and baking gifts with them every day in the kitchen.

Lilian makes her lemon loaf, scones and rolls; David creates his pizzas and is said to have “magic” with barbecuing; Edris fills the kitchen with aromas from the Caribbean; Judy has her blueberry muffins, soups and casseroles; and there are many more volunteers who provide food for families at the hospice facility.

Community members are invited to join by making a financial donation or providing a grocery gift card on Nov. 28 to help sustain the needs of the kitchen.

Donations and gift cards can also be dropped off directly to Hospice Wellington on Nov. 28.
