BRUCEDALE – Guelph/Eramosa firefighters are in need of new self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

The SCBA the firefighters currently use have been in service for 15 years and require replacement, states a report from the fire department.

Two companies bid on replacing the equipment, and both bids met the necessary specifications.

M and L Supply Fire and Safety bid $275,782 and PPE Solutions Inc. bid $282,717.

Council budgeted $317,000 to replace the equipment.

The tender was awarded to M and L Supply Fire and Safety during the regular meeting of council on April 15.

Mayor Chris White asked what would happen to the old SCBA.

Deputy fire chief Jim Petrik said the department will try to sell them, but if not successful in finding a buyer, it would donate them – possibly to Firefighters Without Borders.
