Guelph-Eramosa council approves code of conduct

BRUCEDALE - Guelph-Eramosa has approved a code of conduct that allows complaints against council members to be investigated by an integrity commissioner.

Council endorsed the code without changes on Feb. 28. A full copy is available in that meeting’s agenda on the township website.

It promotes respectful behaviour by councillors and prohibits improper benefits related to their positions.

Revisions to the Municipal Act require that all municipalities have a code of conduct.

Lawyer Guy Giorno has been appointed as integrity commissioner. He serves that role for Wellington County and several other local municipalities.

He does not receive a retainer, but will charge $300 per hour, plus mileage and expenses, for any investigations.
