GUELPH – It was a “paw-sitively” enchanting evening with 300 guests attending the Guelph Humane Society’s (GHS) Happy Tails Gala – Mardi Paws Masquerade, proudly presented by Speedy Auto Service Guelph.

Held on Nov. 4 and focused on making connections “From Hope to Home,” the evening showcased the instrumental role GHS provides in meeting the needs of the community and raised more than $135,000 in net proceeds to support animals with nowhere else to turn.

“We are fortunate to live in a community that deeply values the relationship we have with animals,” said GHS executive director Lisa Veit.

“I am humbled by the support we have received through this event. Together, we have been able to make an incredible difference for our community’s most vulnerable animals.”

Guests had the opportunity to take a stroll down Bourbon Street, engage with fortune tellers and street performers and spend some time with adorable kittens available for adoption.

A highlight of the night included a video created by Ward 1 Studios, which shared the story of Rosie — a dog which had been abandoned, rescued and adopted from GHS earlier this year.

Funds raised will help  more than 3,000 lost, injured, abandoned and abused animals in GHS’s care each year.

It will also help keep more pets and people together by providing no-cost boarding services to pets of families experiencing crisis, women fleeing domestic violence and people seeking mental health and addictions treatment.

Donations will also help  feed 300 pets (and growing) monthly through the GHS Pet Food Bank.

“The results of an evening like this truly demonstrates the impact we can make when the passion of our team is combined with the generosity of our supporters,” said Veit.
