GUELPH – This Halloween season, Candlelight is heading to Guelph with a special musical experience, blending classical masterpieces with iconic horror films and TV soundtracks.

The concert will be performed live by a local string quartet and illuminated by thousands of LED candles at the Royal City Mission Church on Oct. 25.

The 60-minute event is slated to run two shows, one at 4:30pm and the second at 8:45pm.

Tickets range from $27 to $61. Doors are set to open 45 minutes before the show and close five minutes prior to performance.

The program has been curated to pay tribute to the spooky, the fantastical and the supernatural.

Highlights include Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saëns, Funeral March of a Marionette by Charles Gounod and the second movement of Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8, all known for their dramatic tones and dark ambiance.

The concert also features cinematic favourites such as Tubular Bells (theme from The Exorcist), Night on Bald Mountain by Mussorgsky (featured in Disney’s Fantasia), Prelude from Psycho by Bernard Herrmann and the main themes from Beetlejuice, The Addams Family, Ghostbusters, Halloween, Stranger Things, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Michael Jackson’s Thriller, arranged for string quartet, will also be part of the repertoire.

The performance will be delivered by a local string quartet, recognized for their versatility and ability to reimagine contemporary music through a classical lens.
