HARRISTON – The Harriston Kinsmen have gotten more support for the multi-use outdoor sports pad.

The pad, which has already opened to the public, has received $4,000 from the Harriston Legion from the proceeds of a Catch the Ace fundraising initiative.

Legion officials state they are proud to support Kinsmen efforts in creating an inclusive recreational space for all.

“It’s always nice to get support from other local service groups. We do work with them, we rent our space from them and we have held charities with them or worked with them in the past,” said past president Curt McDonald.

The sports pad, which has already been open for several months, is used by the community on a regular basis with children playing basketball or ball hockey.

McDonald adds while the pad is up and running, there is still work they’d like to get done.

“Down the road we’re going to have some lines painted on there so we can get people out playing pickleball. Hopefully we can get some nets set up for that as well. We’d like to have a dance to celebrate the opening of the pad there as well.”
