MAPLETON – The Ottens family and Sunflower Festival organizing committee hosted a haunted corn maze on Oct. 19.

With the help of family and friends dressed up as monsters, ghouls, werewolves and children of the corn, the stage was set for some Halloween fun.

Organizers hoped 100 people would attend, but were overwhelmed by 300 to 400, who came out to enjoy the beautiful autumn evening.

For four hours, the corn maze was filled with the sounds of howls, growls, spooky music, the roar of chainsaws, screams and laughter.

Organizers say they are delighted to have raised $2,760 for the Palmerston and District Hospital, bringing them well over the $8,000 goal for an electric stretcher for the ER, which means the hospital can use the extra funds for other needs.
