Headstone Hunt winners announced Oct. 24
CLIFFORD - John McVicar hosted the fourth annual Harriston Superior Monuments Headstone Hunt draw at the gazebo in Celebration Square in Clifford on Oct. 24.
The 2020 hunt focused on honouring veterans and the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
The family of Bill Speers, a Second World War veteran who served in Italy, was invited to make the five draws. Doug Speers drew the winning entry, Amanda Toner of Moorefield, who wins a cash prize of $300.
Marlene Fortney drew the entry from Trish Versteeg of Clifford for a $100 second prize.
Ron Speers drew the entry of Holt Armstrong of Clifford for the $75 third prize.
Cheryl Brown drew the entry of Debbie Greydanus of Gowanstown the $50 fourth prize.
Doug Speers drew the entry of Natalie Greydanus of Gowanstown fifth place, also $50.
The first 50 entries returned to the Superior Monuments office on Mill Street in Harriston won early bird prizes of a $5 gift card to Gramma Jo’s Restaurant in Clifford.
Louise Versteeg has completed the Headstone Hunt every year and said found it a lot of fun finding the headstones on the hunt and noting others that drew her interest.
John McVicar, of Harrison Superior Monuments, expressed appreciation for the number of people who toured the six cemeteries in Minto, found the monuments and answered the questions.
“It was great it didn’t rain and great so many showed up to see the draw. Next year will be the 76th anniversary of the end to World War ll and the theme may focus on historical figures,” said McVicar.
