Heartwood Farms receives council support for liquor licence
Heartwood Farms and Cidery received support from Erin council on April 3 for its by-the-glass liquor licence application.
The cidery, located north of Wellington Road 124 in Ospringe, makes small-batch, artisanal ciders and also sells meats, fruits, nuts and maple syrup.
The licence from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) would allow the business to sell and serve its products. Restrictions include a maximum of a five-ounce serving sold between 11am and 9pm and drinks are not permitted on driveways, parking lots or other areas that may raise public safety concerns.
Heartwood Farms and Cidery owners Brent Klassen and Val Steinmann wrote to council seeking a motion of support to include with the AGCO licence application.
“I think it’s great for our community,” said councillor Matt Sammut. He asked if there would be issues with parking.
“It is just north of 124 on the west side ... the location is very well back from the road ... so there shouldn’t be any issues with traffic or parking,” said chief building official Paul Evans.
“This is a good thing for our community,” added councillor John Brennan.
Council approved a motion of support.
