Homecoming planned for Palmerston in 2025

PALMERSTON – Work is underway for a full-scale homecoming party here in 2025.

Chris Harrow of the Palmerston Homecoming committee updated Minto council on plans for the celebration at the May 9 meeting.

Although reunions have been held by local groups and organizations, such as Norwell District Secondary School and the local Kinette Club, Harrow said a full homecoming event hasn’t been held in the town since 1975.

Harrow noted the pre-amalgamation town of Palmerston will be 150 years old in 2025.

“So it coincides with the 150th of the original Town of Palmerston,” he explained.

Harrow said a couple of meetings held so far have indicated “extreme interest” and “a lot of people have stepped forward already.”

The process of organizing volunteers into various committees to “start putting the event together” is underway, Harrow pointed out.

He said the group now has a logo for the event, designed by local resident Delany Norman.

A slogan, “All Tracks Lead to Home” focuses on the town’s heritage as a railroad centre.

A website and various social media pages have also been set up.

“We're looking for volunteers to help out with the committees to get everything together,” said Harrow, noting committees have been set up for entertainment, food and beverages, and decorating.

Harrow explained sign-up forms for volunteers have are online and can be found through the Palmerston Homecoming website or social media pages.

The event has been set for the Civic Holiday long weekend in August.

“We want to start early because booking bands, booking tents and (all) that takes a lot of lead time,” he noted.

“We're looking forward to the event. It’s going to be great to welcome everybody home, back to the area,” Harrow stated.
