A house on Wellington Road 26 in Erin was damaged after a fire that started in the kitchen area of the home.

Erin, Hillsburgh and Rockwood fire stations were called to a structure fire at around 12:30pm on May 26.

Erin Fire Chief Dan Callaghan said an Arthur Fuels worker elsewhere on the property saw the fire and called 911.

“The worker probably saved the house because no one was home,” said Callaghan.

He added one firefighter had minor injuries.

Fire crews were leaving the area at around 4pm.

“(The house) is not destroyed, but there is a lot of damage,” said Callaghan.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and  damage is estimated at $150,000. The fire is not considered suspicious.
