JOHNSTON, Calvin “Cal” William

Surrounded by family, Calvin “Cal” Johnston, beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle, passed away on June 25th, 2025 at Groves Memorial Hospital, Fergus. Cal was born in Fergus in 1956 to William Nausau and Mary Eva. He married his best friend, Catherine, in 1994 and spent most of his life building and raising a loving family in Fergus. A well-rounded and talented handyman, Cal was a proud carpenter. He built many sets and props for his wife and daughter’s theatre productions and worked alongside his son fixing up cars and machines. He loved the cottage he built on Chesley Lake, and the many road trips he took with his family. Cal had an adventurous life from travelling to work briefly at Bruce Power, and extensively in the oil fields of Alberta, India, and offshore rigs. He constructed and renovated many of the buildings and residences in Wellington County, Guelph, and surrounding areas. Before his retirement, he worked for Keating Construction where he was a lead carpenter. Survived and fondly remembered by his wife, Catherine, his children, Riley William and Callie May, his daughter-in-law Billie, his sister and brother-in-law Chris and Fred Pelley and family, as well as the Moffatt in laws and his many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by the Lawrence families and many life-long friends including the VandeVens and Tonkins. Visitation will take place at Central Pentecostal Church 7674 Colborne St, Elora, ON N0B 1S0 on Friday, July 11, from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. A funeral service to follow on Saturday, July 12 at the Central Church at 10am. Guests are invited to join the family at the Wellington Museum and Archives Aboyne Room following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to Groves Memorial Hospital would be appreciated. Visit www.grahamgiddyfh.com for Cal’s memorial page.
