WELLINGTON COUNTY – Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Pins were presented to 25 county residents by Perth-Wellington MP John Nater during 2022.

The year marked the 70th anniversary of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne.

The pins, produced by the Department of Canadian Heritage, are designed to be “a personal memorial to the devoted service of a beloved Sovereign, Canada’s Queen,” notes a statement from Nater’s office. The pin features the Canadian Platinum Jubilee emblem, designed by the Canadian Heraldic Authority.

Across the riding, Nater awarded pins to 70 recipients, including 24 from Wellington County.

“This was to acknowledge those who have done service to our communities, but often do not get public recognition,” the statement indicates.

Nater presented the pins during visits to the riding over the course of the year. Most recently, Nater presented pins to members of the Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum Committee at the museum on Dec. 20. Present with pins on that occasion were  Bob McEachern, Susan Welsh and Diane Gilbertson, while museum committee members Wayne Martin and Chad Martin received pins at a separate presentation.

Other pin recipients from the county included:

- Marg Heinmiller of Palmerston;

- Jean Anderson and David Anderson of Harriston;

- Faye Craig, Gerald Townsend, Mary Townsend, Chris McIntosh, Bonnie McIntosh and Myrna Hutchinson of Arthur.

- Larry Grummett of Clifford;

- Ron Ellis of Drayton;

- Leona Ottens of Mapleton;

- Kay Ayres, Kate Rowley, Tori van Tol, Aletha McArthur, Robert McArthur, Samantha Dickert and Frederick Rogers of Mount Forest.
