Junior champion mogul skiers to compete in Caledon next week
CALEDON – Champion junior athletes will be skiing at the Caledon Ski Club from March 8 to 12.
The club is hosting the Canadian Junior National Mogul Championships, a “prestigious honour,” says club member Judy Paterson.
Officials expect three or four locals will compete, but the names have not yet been released.
“It’s so neat that this little ski club can host something this grand,” Paterson said, noting “we are very fortunate.”
March 8 and 9 will be training days, and the competition officially begins on March 10 with moguls. Aerials will be on March 11; dual moguls on March 12.
Paterson said the athletes, who are all 18 years old and under, are the best junior skiers from each province and “very close to our national team level. It’s very fast.”
The club is expecting about 100 volunteers to help with the event. Paterson recommends people “come and watch the young talent burn up the hills.”
Start time for the first run each day is expected to be 10am, and the afternoon run should start between 1 and 2pm.
Caledon Ski Club is located a few kilometres northeast of Erin, and there is no charge for spectators to watch the event. Parking is also free and people are asked to park at the West Lodge entrance at the top of the hill off Mississauga Road.
