Lives lost to drug poisoning remembered in Mount Forest
MOUNT FOREST – People gathered in Mount Forest Aug. 21 to remember the lives lost from drug poisoning and substance abuse.
It marked the fourth Drug Poisoning Awareness Day hosted by the Wellington Guelph Drug Strategy, a coalition implementing a prevention, harm reduction, treatment/recovery and community safety strategy in response to drug use.
The event is aimed at eliminating stigma, ending accidental drug poisonings through awareness, and remembering people who have died.
Organizers also advocate for health-focused policies and services for those who use substances in Guelph and Wellington County.
Drug poisoning, commonly referred to as an overdose, occurs from exposure to a toxic amount of a drug – either through contaminated drugs or unexpected potency.
Stories were shared about the effects of drug poisoning and substance abuse. Community resources were also available for anyone wanting help.
