Local youth athletes recognized

Bursaries – Mapleton Township recently awarded $250 bursaries to three local youth involved in elite-level athletics.  Kathryn Giles, left, and Melanie Giles, right, were on hand to receive the awards in person from Mayor Gregg Davidson at the March 8 council meeting.

The Drayton residents were members of a national silver medal-winning synchronized skating team. Tyler Franklin, from Moorefield, was a member of a softball team which won the U19 Eastern Men’s Canadian Softball Championships in 2021. Through the bursary program initiated in 2019, the township encourages local youth to expand their life experiences through sport.
