Longer contracts considered for dust control
BRUCEDALE - Guelph-Eramosa will investigate the possibility of longer-term contracts that could save money on road line painting and dust control.
Township council approved one-year contract extensions for the services on Feb. 4 but agreed with councillor Corey Woods, who suggested public works director Harry Niemi look into longer-term arrangements.
The maintenance costs are included in the proposed 2019 operations budget, which is currently under review and not yet approved.
The township will continue to source magnesium chloride from Miller Paving, the only bidder and only large-volume supplier in the area. The price is up from 24.89 to 25.39 cents per litre.
“The inflation increase of 2 per cent is at or below historical annual increases,” said Niemi. “We’re getting the product we want and price-wise we’re in line with others in the county.”
The township will extend its contract with RanN Maintenance for line painting, with no increase over 2018. Lines on paved roads are repainted annually.
The cost will continue at $180 per kilometre, with a slight additional cost related to the resurfacing of a section of 3rd Line.
