Mapleton building activity down in April but year-to-date value higher

MAPLETON – Construction in Mapleton was down in April, compared to the same month the previous year.

However, based on estimated value, year-to-date building activity is up from last year’s levels.

At the May 12 council meeting, chief building official Patty Wright reported 18 permits for about $3.65 million worth of construction, were issued in April, generating permit fees of $36,400.

That compares to 31 permits for about $4.8 million worth of construction and permit fees of $46,600 in April of 2019.

To the end of April, the township issued 77 building permits for construction worth approximately $15.7 million - up from about $14.3 million on 93 permits to the same point in 2019.

Building permit fees for the first four months of 2020 totalled $146,800, compared to about $112,000 to the end of April in 2019.

The agricultural sector generated the most activity both in April and year-to date. There were 13 permits for agricultural construction projects worth nearly $3.3 million issued in April.

So far in 2020, 32 agriculture construction permits have been issued for projects worth a total of around $7.7 million.
