Mapleton council returning to face-to-face meetings

MAPLETON – The return of in-person council meetings is imminent.

Municipal councils in Wellington County and around the province have been meeting for months by video and teleconference due to gathering restrictions issued as part of the province's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With Wellington County moving, along with much of the province, to stage three of Ontario’s re-opening plan on July 17, Mapleton Mayor Gregg Davidson stated during the July 14 township council meeting the new phase would mean a return to “face-to-face meetings.”

The first such gathering in Mapleton is scheduled to be a special meeting of council on July 30 at the PMD arena in Drayton at 7pm.

The purpose of the special meeting is the presentation of a staff report regarding a proposals received for water and wastewater systems.

An agenda will be available on the township website prior to the meeting.

Mapleton clerk Barb Schellenberger said the public may attend the meeting, but attendees must wear masks to comply with public health and county requirements.

Seating will be set up to accommodate physical distancing.

Council’s next regular meeting, set for Aug. 11, will also be held at the PMD arena.

Schellenberger said the public will be welcome at that meeting as well.
